Speech

Commercial Speech

The Alexa loses her voice commercial was released for the super bowl 2018 game, for the fourth quarter of the game.  The purpose of this commercial was to promote the speaker Alexa. The author of the commercial promoted Alexa in a comedically way, by getting famous singers, chefs, and actresses. The super bowl is one of the biggest games of the year, having 111.5 Million viewers. The author got well known people to feature in the commercial to make the audience more engaged, by having someone they know on the screen promote the commercial. The audience of the commercial is made for anyone. Also, why the author got a variety of famous, well known people. This was beneficial because If one person watching did not know Cardi B, they may know the chef, Gordon Ramsey. The author succeeded by putting a variety of well-known people in his commercial. The author of the commercial uses pathos to persuade the audience. The author using feelings in the commercial to get people engaged in the content. The commercial was meant to be comedic, leaving a remembrance of the commercial in the persons head. This shows the author used pathos when creating the commercial. Another way the author had people remember the product was to repeat the product often. In the commercial they always refer to Alexa. This is used to help promote the name, so people remember the name. Alexa is known for helping asset someone with just their voice. In the commercial they demonstrate that a lot with each scene always saying “Alexa can you” and then finish the sentence. This helps the audience understand how Alexa works. The commercial is comical because every time a person ask Alexa to do something the app will never do as they say. This is meant to make the commercial funny, leaving the audience with a laugh. By doing that, it can be a little risky having Alexa not do the commands you ask because it portray to the audience that Alexa does not work correctly, the author purposely did this to make the commercial comical to the audience.

3 Sources

  1. Marketing at the interface not Why, but How
      1. For my first source, Marketing at the interface not why, but how is a source online. I am planning on interviewing a person who is in my marketing field. I figured getting a source from a marketing journal will help me get a better understanding of the writing, along with my person I interview. I plan on analyses the tone of the journal, along with finding out the type of audiences the writer it talking to. I pan on comparing the similarities and differences between the article and the interview.

      1. For my final source, I chose a journal about house hold finance. This article is a nonacademic article. This article is made for any audience. I plan on comparing the style of writing from a nonacademic finance article to an academic article or an interview with a person who works in finance. I will express the differences between an academic and nonacademic writing style by doing this, I will not only understand the writing style and tone of this specific field, I will also understand this difference in tone with a nonacademic and academic piece of writing.

Major 1 writting assignment

The first paper for Rhetoric talks about your profession. Students need to meet with people from their specific major and ask questions to benefit their understanding about that major. While meeting with the person of choice, each student is asked to analyze different writings that pertain to that specific field.  By doing so, the students will get a feel how writing varies with different majors. For example, a doctor would write differently than an elementary teacher because of the audience they are presenting to. Each profession has a different style of writing, depending on their specific focus of study.

For this specific assignment, when we interview people, can it be over the phone?

What are some good starting questions to ask my person?

What day do you recommended starting the interviews?
